Kick Starting Your Career in Silicon Valley – Six Reasons Why I Joined BrightEdge

Almost two years ago while working for a small law firm, helping recruit new legal assistants, I decided that I wanted to recruit full-time. I was looking for an entry-level position in recruiting in Silicon Valley for a hot start-up with a strong growth culture.

I found BrightEdge and have not looked back!

Here are six reasons why I chose BrightEdge:

  1. Fast-paced startup. Moving to Silicon Valley I wanted to get in on the startup action and work with leaders in market. BrightEdge presented me with that very opportunity. From day one I took on a great deal of responsibility that included managing my own products and implementing changes that had a positive impact on the way that BrightEdge recruited engineers. Working closely with the co-founder and CTO, Lemuel Park, enables me to keep up to speed and quickly react and respond to candidates as the company rapidly grows and the recruitment pipeline grows.
  2. Success. I wanted to work for, not just any start-up, a startup that had the promise to be successful and one where I could be successful. BrightEdge is on a great trajectory, adding new customers and employees every week and opening new offices around the globe. Working in this environment is inspiring and motivates me to work harder. In the year and a half I’ve been here, I can see the tangible positive effect I’ve had at BrightEdge.
  3. Career Advancement. Working at BrightEdge has given me the opportunity to fast track my career as an entry-level employee. Hard work and execution are rewarded and recognized and many employees receive promotions before the one-year mark. For some staff this results in taking the opportunity to change teams and explore a different side of the business.
  4. Training.  As an entry-level employee I was extremely impressed by BrightEdge’s initial training and the continued mentorship program. All new BrightEdge employees spend one week in onboarding, getting up to speed on the company, the technology and the SEO space. And the training doesn’t end there. Each employee has a mentor that meets with them weekly, helping them navigate both small questions that may come up as well as shape their career going forward. A twice-yearly performance review also helps employees keep our goals in mind and helps us review our successes.
  5. Team. I am a part of a successful team where everyone is smart and motivated to work together. This enables everyone to be successful. We celebrate our successes and work together if someone falls behind.
  6. Fun. And last but not least, we reward all of our hard work by having fun! There are smaller events, like a movie night and yoga in the park, larger team off-sites and release celebrations, and even larger industry events and holiday parties. After all that hard work we know how to unwind and have a good time .

Recruiting Tips

As a recruiter I’ve met with many students who are about to graduate and are considering their options. How do you choose which positions to apply for and which companies to interview? Make sure to keep these criteria in mind:

  1. What are your strengths, and do they match with the job you’re considering?
  2. What are your goals, and will this position/company help you achieve them?
  3. Did you like the people you met, and will you enjoy spending 40+ hours each week with them?

If you can answer these questions positively, then you’ll know you have found a good match for your first full-time job, which may land you in Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Client Service, Finance, Accounting or even HR.
